“XOXO, Surrey“ Translink Bus Stop, 2024

Artwork created for Translink’s rapid bus lines in Surrey, a response to the city's growing population. Inspired by Surrey's predominantly South Asian community, the piece features intricate jaali (lattice) patterns, traditionally found in palaces and recognized by people from the region. By incorporating these traditional patterns into bus stops, the artwork subverts power imbalances, offering a warm, royal welcome to all bus riders, regardless of their walks of life. The artwork transforms the patterns into an abstract landscape. It interacts with the light in the day and creates a visual dance illuminated by the light. Through the play of transparency in the jaali, the piece metaphorically explores the shared stories of riders that often go unseen.
